What is Punch Needle?

Let's start with the basics. Punch needle embroidery is a form of needlework that uses a special tool called, you guessed it, a punch needle! This nifty tool allows you to create beautiful textured designs on fabric by punching yarn or thread through the fabric in a controlled manner.

Punch Needle: Your main tool for stitching.

6 Magnets: Perfect for turning your finished designs into fridge magnets.

Step-by-Step Guide to Punch Needle

Prepare the Fabric

  • Unscrew the screw, separate the inner and outer rings of your hoop
  • Place the fabric over the inner ring and put the outer ring back over the fabric, pressing down to secure it tightly.

  • Tighten the hoop's screw and pull the fabric taut, ensuring it's as tight as a drum.

Threading the Needle

  • Insert the threader through the needle's tip, extending it out the handle's end.
  • Place a 2-inch piece of yarn through the threader's loop.
  • Gently pull the threader back through the needle, drawing the yarn with it.
  • Pass the yarn through both the needle's hollow shaft and the eye near the tip

Begin Punching

  • Hold the punch needle like a pencil. Starting in a small section of your design, insert the needle fully into the fabric until the handle touches the surface.

  • Always have the beveled (open) side facing the direction you're working. Slowly retract the needle, gliding it across the fabric's surface to the next insertion point, typically 1-2 holes away.

  • Continue this process, following your design's outline and filling the in sections as desired.

Changing Colors

  • To switch yarn colors, first insert the needle and punch the yarn into the fabric as shown. Once secured, trim the yarn, leaving a small tail. Then, gently pull the needle out of the fabric.

  • Choose the yarn color and thread it by following the earlier threading steps.

Finishing Touches

  • After finishing your coaster, you might have some excess yarn. Trim it carefully to give your piece a neat and polished look.

  • Secure the back using the adhesive felt sheets provided to keep your stitches in place.

  • Now that the yarn is secured in place, its time to trim. Use your scissors to carefully cut around your shape.

You did it! Now it's time to show off your beautiful art.

Now that you've mastered the basics, it's time to create something fun! Use your kit to bring adorable unique coasters to life! Happy punching! 🎨✨
