How to Single Crochet & Increasing
The stitch that builds everything — simple, strong, and beginner-friendly.
Once you’ve mastered chaining and counting, it’s time to learn your first real stitch — the Single Crochet.
Step 1: Insert the Hook
To do a Single Crochet stitch, start by slipping your hook into the next stitch.
Make sure the hook goes through both loops of the “V.”
Step 2: Yarn Over
Wrap the yarn around the hook from back to front — this motion is called a yarn over.
Step 3: Pull Through the Stitch
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
You should now see two loops on your hook.
Step 4: Yarn Over Again
Wrap the yarn around your hook again and pull it through both loops.
You’ve just made one single crochet stitch! 🎉
🪄 Tip: Keep your tension steady — if it’s too tight, the hook will snag; too loose, and your stitches will look uneven.
Step 5: Repeat for an Increase
To increase, you’ll do one more single crochet in the same stitch — following the same steps as above (Steps 1–4).
That’s called an increase stitch — it makes your round expand evenly.
Step 6: Keep Your Place
For now, you don’t need to move your stitch marker — just continue following the pattern for your next round.
💡 Tip: You’ll know you’ve done it right when your hook slides easily, and your stitches look even — not too tight or too loose.
✨ Always go through both loops of the “V” for even tension.
✨ Use your stitch marker to track the start of each round (no guesswork!).
✨ Counting after every round helps catch small mistakes early.
✨ When increasing, space your stitches evenly to keep that smooth Booty curve!
What’s Next?
You’ve mastered how to build up your rounds — now it’s time to shape them down.
In the next lesson, we’ll show you how to decrease stitches to give your Booty Pillow its perfect curve and finish.
