How To Set Up Your Sewing Machine For Free Motion Quilting

Before you start learning how to use our quilting templates, let’s go over a few simple steps you will need to do to set up your sewing machine for using our quilting templates.

  1. Remove whichever foot you have attached to your sewing machine and replace it with a Free Motion Quilting Foot for templates. Be sure to have an FMQ foot that is made specifically for use with templates.
  2. Lower or cover your feed dogs.
  3. Change your stitch length to “0”.
  4. Do some test stitches with a practice quilt sandwich to ensure your thread tension is right for quilting.

Now that you have your machine set up and ready for quilting with templates, you can begin practicing.

Hello hello… I got one of your ruler kits for Christmas. I have a husvarna Viking brillance 75q machine. I don’t know if the free motion foot will work with my machine. The foot hardware which attaches to the free motion foot won’t go over the ruler inside of the pattern. Do you know of anything I could do about this or have you heard this before? I am very disappointed I can’t get this tool to work for me… please let me know
